Cuando hablamos de los NOx, estamos hablando de un grupo de gases compuestos formados por una combinaci\u00f3n o mezcla de di\u00f3xido de nitr\u00f3geno, cuya f\u00f3rmula es NO2, y \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico, cuya f\u00f3rmula es NO.<\/p>\n<p>El proceso de formaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s habitual de estos compuestos inorg\u00e1nicos es la combusti\u00f3n a altas temperaturas, proceso en el cual habitualmente el aire es el comburente. Muchos de los \u00f3xidos de nitr\u00f3geno son incoloros e inodoros. Sin embargo, el di\u00f3xido de nitr\u00f3geno (NO2), un contaminante com\u00fan, forma en el aire junto a las part\u00edculas en suspensi\u00f3n una capa entre rojiza y marr\u00f3n que cubre muchas zonas urbanas.<\/p>\n<p>En la combinaci\u00f3n de los \u00f3xidos de nitr\u00f3geno, la principal fuente de contaminaci\u00f3n es el di\u00f3xido de nitr\u00f3geno, que s\u00ed que tiene efectos especialmente negativos en la salud humana y el medio ambiente.\u00a0 M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de ser parte de los NOx, es un gas irritante y t\u00f3xico que es precursor en la formaci\u00f3n de las part\u00edculas de nitrato, es un poderoso oxidante que reacciona de forma violenta con materiales reductores y combustibles, atacando a materiales met\u00e1licos con agua. Y tambi\u00e9n aparece tras la quema de rastrojos, los incendios forestales, la actividad volc\u00e1nica, pero principalmente por la quema de combustibles f\u00f3siles a altas temperaturas en los motores de veh\u00edculos, procesos t\u00e9rmicos de centrales el\u00e9ctricas y otras fuentes industriales, comerciales y dom\u00e9sticas que queman combustible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Efectos de los Gases NOx en la Salud Humana.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Los NOx son perjudiciales para la salud humana: El di\u00f3xido de nitr\u00f3geno (NO2), es un gas especialmente peligroso para la salud que puede producirnos una disminuci\u00f3n de la capacidad pulmonar y del sistema inmunol\u00f3gico, bronquitis aguda, asma, alergias o irritaci\u00f3n ocular y de las mucosas y estudios de salud ocupacional demuestran que puede ser letal en concentraciones elevadas. El \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico (NO), por su parte, es capaz de unirse a la hemoglobina, reduciendo su capacidad de transporte de ox\u00edgeno en el cuerpo humano.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Efectos de los Gases NOx en el Medio Ambiente.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>En el medio ambiente, los efectos se centran en la formaci\u00f3n del c\u00e9lebre smog fotoqu\u00edmico que, al ser combinado con otros contaminantes atmosf\u00e9ricos, contribuye negativamente al buen estado de la capa de ozono. Adem\u00e1s, el aire es cada vez m\u00e1s irrespirable. Tambi\u00e9n contribuye al calentamiento global y puede provocar lluvia \u00e1cida.
