This economic evaluation model considers the\u00a0 concept of the time value of money, which essentially reflects the simple issue\u00a0 that the value of money today, or the present value, is not the same as it will be in\u00a0 the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reason for this is that idle resources lose <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">value if they are not used, because there are\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">always opportunities to invest and make a profit,\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">even if all you do is put the money in a savings\u00a0 a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ccount in a bank. However, the evaluation of\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects, given the\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">large capital expenditures (CAPEX), is highly\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sensitive to the consideration of several technical\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Heterogeneities, Well Arrangement, Spacing),\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">operational (Available Energy Sources, Facilities,\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc) and economic (price of a barrel of oil)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">variables. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this reason, the use of project\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">evaluation techniques such as the one proposed\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Skinner, <strong>based on the decision hierarchy\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>triangle<\/strong> (Policies, Strategies and Tactics) as well\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as the<strong> implementation of influence diagrams or\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>decision trees<\/strong> to consider the impact of each\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">variable on the main economic indicators (NPV,\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IRR, TP, EI, among others) is essential in order to\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">adequately support the decision making process\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and even determine the moment from which it\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">would not be beneficial to continue with the\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">project, thus estimating the so-called economic\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">limit.
